This is the name of our new project, approved for funding by the Agency for People with Disabilities. Another competition won by us and another step on the way to our long-term goal of a happy and fulfilling life for people with Down syndrome in Bulgaria!
Today we signed the contract between our Foundation and the Agency, with which we officially launch the project activities. There is a lot of work to be done in an extremely short time frame, but thanks to the preliminary development and planning that we have carried out in the past months since the beginning of the year, we are confident that we will cope with this challenge qualitatively and on time.
The goal of our project is to create a starter pack with adapted books and work materials in Bulgarian for reading training, tailored to the specifics of students with Down syndrome, regardless of their age.
Literacy of students with Down syndrome in Bulgaria is a pain for most families, due to the lack of knowledge, skills (and often desire) on the part of teachers in our native schools on how to work with these children.
It is scary, but it is a fact that a large part of young people and adults with Down syndrome in Bulgaria cannot read and write freely (or at all!), which automatically deprives them of the opportunity for self-realization and an independent, full life.
Wish us success in realizing our goal of having more and more literate and reading children, young people and adults with Down syndrome in Bulgaria! ❤
P.P. Before they were signed, the documents were carefully reviewed by our chief expert Vyara. As can be seen from the last photos, she does not waste her time when we travel, but deals with books, notebooks and other things that she herself selected before we left.
